Things do not always go as planned, and many have come to realize the fragility of the social construct and systems we rely on for daily life. Many have made the decision to take matters into their own hands and take control of the safety and well-being of themselves and their family. Being more prepared gives you peace of mind. Being prepared and experienced gives you confidence.

There is no shortage of information out there on being more prepared, so much that it can be difficult to decipher what information is most valuable and best for you and your family. Many well-meaning “preppers” have gone down some pretty interesting roads and may have unrealistic expectations. That is often coupled with an unrealistic view of their own abilities, especially physically, to actually execute their own plans.

This course is designed to teach you the basics of individual preparedness. You will not be a valuable asset to a team or community if you yourself are not prepared and capable. Preparedness starts with you. During this course, you will learn how to plan, prepare, and execute during an emergency.

Upon completion of the course, you can be confident that you have everything you need packed, and most importantly, how to use everything you packed to support your needs. You will also take part in a realistic scenario’s where you can test your gear and your ability to use it, giving you both confidence and experience. You will leave this course knowing that you can be an asset to any team or community, rather than a liability.

Students will learn

  • Preparedness Planning
  • Preparedness Systems
  • Route Planning
  • Packing a Baseline Bug Out Bag
  • Supplemental Kits
  • Building, Placing, and Recovering Caches
  • Concealed Fires
  • Stealth Shelters
  • Water Procurement and Disinfection
  • No-Gear Food Procurement
  • First Aid for Trauma
  • Basic Map Reading and Land Navigation
  • Basic Counter-tracking Techniques

This course is “BYOB”: Bring Your Own Bug Out Bag! (This includes bringing your own emergency rations) While I highly recommend that you have a minimum of what is detailed in my “Green Beret’s Ultralight Bug Out Bag” on YouTube, I understand that you may already have a BOB of your own. This is the perfect opportunity to come test out that gear and your ability to use it all or learn to use what you already have.

You will be staying out in the woods for the duration of the course. If you would like to book a local hotel the night prior to the course and/or after, please book well enough in advance.

Water will be provided for all students during the course.

I recognize that firearms and ammunition may be part of your individual plan for preparedness. What good is having preps if you cannot protect them. However, for this particular course, they will not be needed. The focus is on the ability to support your needs with the resources available. What good is being able to shoot if you cannot prevent hypothermia, stay hydrated, or carry the load on your back to begin with?

Event F.A.Q

Do I bring food?

Yes, you will be bringing your own emergency rations or food, which will be whatever you plan to pack in your Bug Out bag.

Can I bring my gun?

No. There will be no firearms allowed by students. This is not a firearms course, so it is a safety issue if students bring firearms.

Are we using the bathroom outside?

No, there will be a women's and men's portajohn close to basecamp.

Will we be able to take showers?

No, there will not be showers on-site. Feel free to bring body sanitation wipes if you'd like.

What gear do I need to bring?

This is a "bring your own bug out bag" course, although we do have recommended packing list in the product description. There will be a good amount of hiking involved, so do not overpack your bags with any unnecessary gear.

What about clothing?

Please dress appropriately for any possible change in weather conditions.

What about water?

Water will be provided at basecamp and students will procure their own water when out in the field.

Are there any safety concerns?

No more than a standard overnight hiking/camping trip. There will be a medic on-site during the course, and the land owner who will also be attending is a medical doctor.
