GB2 Tinder Tabs: All Weather Fire Tabs
After years of trying to source what has always been my favorite emergency fire tinder, the search is over. I was first introduced to these outstanding little fire tabs as part of the US Military Spark-Lite Emergency Fire Starting System. I have recommended them beginning with my very first published video on YouTube and still carried and recommended them in my original Bug Out Bag video years later. Simply put, these are my absolute favorite fire tabs after years of extensive use and testing.
Each GB2 Tinder Tab is specially treated to a high standard to ensure the cotton is waterproof and will provide a more than adequate burn time for starting a fire. Each tab burns for 1-2 minutes. In field testing that I have done, I found that wet tinder can be dried out and lit in as little as 15-30 seconds. I have even split these tabs into halves and thirds and successfully lit 2-3 fires with each tab. This is good information to have in terms of conserving resources in an emergency.
Each tin of GB2 Tinder Tabs comes packed with 12 tabs, so you should expect to be able to light up to 12 emergency fires with one tin. In a real pinch, you can even stretch this to 24-36 fires. This should be more than enough for any short-term emergency.
The GB2 Tinder Tabs tin features a sliding top and is suitable to be reused as a charring and storage tin for charcloth or charred natural material, or to carry small items like fishing kits, medicine, spices, or sewing kits. There are many reasons that these tabs were chosen by the US Military, and those are the same reasons that I choose GB2 Tinder Tabs. Lightweight, compact, inexpensive, no mess, and absolutely reliable. I recommend having a tin of GB2 Tinder Tabs and a lighter in every one of your kits and in every vehicle you have, including ATVs and boats.
