Leather Paddle Strop
Stones are really only necessary if you have damaged your blade and need something aggressive to correct it, or if you wish to change the angle of the grind for some reason. Otherwise, stones are too aggressive and remove too much material for daily maintenance.
The leather paddle strop is the perfect solution for routine maintenance to keep your edge polished and sharp, especially when paired with some green honing compound.
This paddle strop features hardwood construction with a black paracord lanyard. Both sides are covered with a thick and durable 1/8″ brown vegetable tanned cowhide leather. It measures 11 7/8″ overall, so it is the perfect size for your pack or your bench. Workable area measures 8 1/8″ x 2″.

The primary purpose is realigning your blade's edge without removing material.
Is this how I get a hair-shaving sharp edge on a knife?
Besides having good edge geometry, YES...THIS IS THE WAY.
Does this work on hook knives?
No. Hook knives require a cylindrical or rounded strop.
