The History of Thompson Snares

In 1918, Raymond Thompson began his Snare building and in 1927 patented the first steel snare; a design that is still widely used today. Mr. Thompson operated The Raymond Thompson Company until his death in the mid-1980s at which time ownership transferred to his grandson, Dick Sinrud. Mr. Sinrud continued his grandfather’s innovations in the snaring industry throughout his ownership in the company.

His most recent accomplishment being the patenting of the Thompson™ New Release Lock; a device that allows snaremen the opportunity to abide by state and federal cable restraint regulations while also allowing the re-use of some snares. The company name was changed to Thompson Snares in 2007.

In June of 2009, the Davis family purchased the company from Mr. Sinrud and relocated the business to Northeast Missouri. They owned the company until the fall of 2019, when Carrie and I purchased the company and relocated it to Hortense, Georgia.

It is our goal to continue providing the same quality products and materials Thompson Snares has been known for over the last 85 years. We continue to develop new ideas, applications and products to better serve our customers.

Our commitment to God and family has given us the opportunity to carry on the tradition that began so many years ago by Raymond Thompson. We look forward to continue serving our loyal customers as well as making new friends as we move forward.

I was a trapper of sorts when I was a kid. Living on a farm, not allowed to watch tv during the day made us become creative with our use of time, so this is a skill I perfected at about 10 years old. Recent times being so crazy I feel a strong need to get back to basics and reclaim the self sufficiency i once had. Trapping is one of those skills. When Josh explained that these were made by a really small company it was all I needed to add a few to my kit. Of course I know how to make these from scrap but helping a small business in this rough time seems more important. If I’m not mistaken the last time I checked this business stated that it was permanently closed on google. I still find the snares here. They’ve kind of become collector items now I guess. Support small business!

Haven’t spent time with them yet. But seem great!

I keep buying these to build up my collection. Most of them I have in places I need them so I don’t have to transport them on the day. Again these are made by a very small business, and sold by another small business! Buy these here!

Even though you could buy one set and make your own by using it as a model (and if your budget does not permit you should do that) they are so well priced here that it’s totally worth it. But most important is to practice if you have a place to do it. (Please avoid doing it where you run a risk of catching domestic animals, it’s not good form)…

I’ve heard these are good. They look like they will do the job and playing around with these, they seem to tighten up easily. I haven’t used them to trap anything yet. My order shipped and arrived quickly.
