Survival & Bushcraft Tools, Sharpening and Gear Maintenance — Built to Work, Maintained to Last
A tool is only as good as the hand that maintains it. This collection covers both sides of that equation — the cutting tools, axes, and saws that do the work in the field, and the sharpening systems, strops, stones, and repair kits that keep them performing at full capability. Every product here has been selected by Special Forces veteran and survival instructor Joshua Enyart based on real-world field use, not specifications on paper.
Knives, Axes, and Saws
The GB2 Puukko and Jaeger Puukko are GB2's own full-tang knives — high carbon steel blades designed for the demands of wilderness survival and bushcraft. The Helle line (Viking, Arv, Gaupe, Sigmund, Skog) represents the benchmark in Scandinavian knifemaking: laminated steel, full tang construction, and handles built for extended field work. Mora's carving knives round out the blade selection for woodcraft tasks that require a controlled, fine edge.
For axes and hatchets, the Hults Bruk Jonaker carving hatchet and the Council Tool Woodcraft Pack Axe are the selections here — both hand-forged, both capable of the sustained work required in a field environment. On the saw side, the Silky PocketBoy Outback, the GB2 Packable Buck Saw with its handmade hardwood frame, and individual Bahco blades cover the range from packable EDC to a full camp saw setup.
Sharpening Systems
A dull blade is a liability in the field. The Wicked Edge precision sharpening systems — the WE40 Carbon, WE60 GO, and WE64 Cobalt — are the most consistent angle-controlled sharpening platforms available. Each accepts diamond stone packs across multiple grits, and the series extends to diamond and leather strop packs and micron diamond paste for a refined finishing edge. For field-portable sharpening, the Fjallkniven DC4, Bushman Dual Sharpening Stone, Hults Bruk Sharpening Puck, and Viking Whetstone provide the range from camp sharpening to quick touchups mid-task.
Leather strops — the Casstrom strop and the Green Honing Compound Bar — are the final step in any sharpening sequence. A properly stropped edge performs noticeably better on fine cuts and carving tasks and extends the time between stone work significantly.
Gear Repair and Tool Maintenance
Field gear fails. The ExoTac ripSPOOL field repair kit handles cordage, fabric, and strap repairs with a compact spool of waxed thread, needles, and safety pins sized for a pocket or kit pouch. Martexin Original Wax reproofs waxed canvas gear that has seen hard use — restoring water resistance and extending the life of any waxed cotton item. Smith's Leather Balm conditions leather sheaths, knife handles, and straps to prevent cracking and maintain suppleness. These aren't optional — they're the maintenance cycle that keeps your primary gear functional over years of use.
Selected for GB2 Courses and Real Field Work
Every knife, axe, saw, and sharpening system in this collection has earned its place through actual field evaluation — in GB2 live training events, in the wilderness, and in the hands of students learning survival and bushcraft from the ground up. If it's here, Joshua has used it, recommended it in a course, or both. Shop the full selection below and build a tool kit that will hold up where it counts.
